W&L Law Community Read Event, Wed. Feb. 8
The Law Library at Washington and Lee University will host the third annual W&L Law Community Read event on Wednesday, February 8 from 5 to 6pm in the Millhiser Moot Court Room. A panel of legal practitioners and scholars will discuss the real-life inspirations and context of John Grisham’s best-selling 2014 novel, Gray Mountain. Set in the coal country of western Virginia, the book brings to the fore unique legal issues related to industrial mining and its impact on the environment, human health, business, and other cultural and social aspects of life in rural Appalachia. All members of the W&L community are welcome to attend this free event. Panelists include:
- Mary Cromer, Staff Attorney at the Appalachian Citizens’ Law Center and advisor to Mr. Grisham for the novel
- Jill Fraley, Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Law and History at W&L
- Timothy MacDonnell, Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Advanced Administrative Litigation Clinic (Black Lung) at W&L
Ruth Bader Ginsburg: A Reading List
In anticipation of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s visit to Lexington, Virginia the law library assembled a reading list featuring writings by Justice Ginsburg, about Justice Ginsburg, her most notable written opinions, and other documents relevant to her nomination and confirmation to the Supreme Court.
